Massachusetts settlers acquired the land of present-day Norwalk in two different agreements in 1640 and 1641. The first landowners came from Hartford in 1649, and the town was founded in 1651. This early settlement reared cows and produced flax and hemp. The town was nearly devastated during the Revolutionary War by British soldiers led by General Tryon. By 1880, oyster farming had dominated the local economy, and Norwalk had the world's biggest fleet of steam-powered oyster boats. The settlement was reincorporated as a city in 1893 and united into the metropolis we know today in 1913.

Beautiful picturesque hikes along the Norwalk River and Harbor may be explored by tourists on foot or by bike.

Music Theatre of Connecticut (MTC)

The MTC has been delivering the pleasure of musical shows to both Norwalk residents and visitors since its inception in 1987. The MTC Main Stage, a yearly series of best productions with professional musicians from New York, often hosts a variety of performances by student and local amateur artists. Children from kindergarten through high school who are interested can attend the MTC's School of Music.

SoNo 1420 American Craft Distillers

One of the most famous international spirit contests, the San Francisco World Spirit Competition, has awarded the double-gold medal to the award-winning distillery SoNo 1420. Visitors must visit to sample some of their excellent co*cktails and spirits, which include gins, vodkas, and whiskeys. SoNo Distillery provides tastings and excursions, during which guests will visit the apothecary laboratory, witness the distillation apparatus, see their ancient grounds, and sample some of their greatest final products.

Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is a country house, illuminating the beauty and majesty of the Victorian Era. LeGrand Lockwood, the railroad baron, erected this residence in the 1860s. It is the most notable example of Second Empire architecture and design style. The home offers stunning Gilded Age interiors and antique furnishings, as well as a special Christmas exhibit called "The Mansion's Toys and Trains Story" and a number of great exhibitions. Visitors may enter the museum from early April to early January, and guided tours are available Wednesday through Sunday.

Oak Hills Park
